I realised that I was using the wrong aspect ratio! I've fixed up my thumbnails here to match the film.

That is a good lesson to use the right aspect when studying a film. Without the correct ratio, you can't properly place object and compositions. I did thumbnails until the jaguar finishes off a hominid. I like those tapirs.

Andrea K Haidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03912254285198107387noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2077334496180062677.post-1403549173187611962023-08-16T09:36:00.004-07:002023-08-18T12:37:25.138-07:00First Film Study!
<span face="-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; font-size: 14px;">This is my f<span face="-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; font-size: 14px;">irst time doing a thumbnail film study! It's been so addictive to work on this. I hate doing a bunch of work and having to go do life for a few days only to come back to a scene and not really remember what I was doing. So I skipped out on life for a few days to finish up this little section of animation.

I decided a long time ago that I wasn't going to all out fully hand animate every shot in my short because let's face it, that will take me the rest of my life to finish by myself. So I'm using Harmony rigs for a few shots and some shots will have minor amounts of animation. The big juicy acting and storytelling shots will be fully hand animated for sure, but this one is done with a rig. It was actually a lot of fun to animate something fast and simple for a change. However the mouth, which is the focus of the shot, is hand animated. So this is a small taste of what Pickled will be like.Andrea K Haidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03912254285198107387noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2077334496180062677.post-69600430204719318542018-04-09T07:05:00.000-07:002018-06-26T17:50:14.257-07:00The neutral bride! I wasn't too happy with my last line pass so redrew the whole thing. Her skin looks just a bit too cadaverous doesn't it? I mean, she is dead, but only recently so. I will fix up all my colour choices. As well, I think the blood dripping off the knife currently looks like the knife is floating in the air, so I'm going to adjust it a bit to make it look like everything is lying on the floor.
I will probably go with a "cartoony" sort of shading, or at least something that isn't too fancy.Andrea K Haidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03912254285198107387noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2077334496180062677.post-64319245582149279222018-03-12T06:14:00.000-07:002018-03-12T06:14:28.092-07:00Film Poster Work in ProgressI've had a concept in mind for a film poster for Pickled for a long long time and am finally working on it. I need more art for my social media platforms and I want to start promoting Pickled more soon. I'd also really love to get my official Pickled website and my company websites up. (Those are pickledfilm.com and mingothings.ca respectively.) I've been listening to an amazing podcast recently called "Being Boss" by <span style="background-color: white; color: #252525; font-family: "PT Serif", serif; font-size: 16px;">Kathleen Shannon and Emily Thompson. One of the things they discuss is how consistency is really important for any brand and I totally agree. I'd like to get my poster done and maybe a few more pieces that can grace the front pages of my Facebook, Instagram and all the place I share Pickled online.
<span style="background-color: white; color: #252525; font-family: "PT Serif", serif; font-size: 16px;">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #252525; font-family: "PT Serif", serif; font-size: 16px;">Here are some of my rough concepts for the Pickled poster:
<span style="background-color: white; color: #252525; font-family: "PT Serif", serif; font-size: 16px;">

My first colour concept test.

I've been polishing up this shot for a little while and was happy enough with it to put it on a demo reel. It's not %100 done yet but it's almost there! Although then I need to decide on clean up and colour...

Go baby naps. I got painting done!I can hardly believe how quickly I made progress on these backgrounds. The babeh has had a few good naps and I got some work done!
I've got 4 bgs left to finish up now. I think that using Corel Painter really slowed me down... It's such a laggy program! But I love the brushes and so dealt with the extreme lag. (There are a few awful things about the layers window in Painter as well that make organising files tough.) Here is a screen capture of the 4 leftover bgs in Bridge:

Seeing the 4 of them at once is motivational. I like being able to see the big picture when I can, it helps.Andrea K Haidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03912254285198107387noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2077334496180062677.post-90416289550243989342015-05-31T20:46:00.003-07:002015-05-31T20:46:44.917-07:00Babette Before and AfterPose tweaking! I love comparing before and after pose tweaks... It really makes the good and the bad obvious. I like to see when I can successfully improve a drawing. It helps to use a software that you layer the images over top of each other and then you can turn on and off the top layer to really see it for what it is.
Progress is slow but it's there. I'm just posting this to feel good about making enough progress to make a post about my short since about... September 2013?? Yikes! That's almost a year and 9 months! That's what learning a new toolset and having a kid will do I guess.
In 2014 I gave birth to my son and he has been my priority through my pregnancy and beyond. It will probably be another 3 or 4 months before I can do another update. Much is changing in my life so it will take some time for me to settle and find some routine. Right now I'm in the middle of packing up my home for a move. I physically can't even get to my desk these days due to all the "stuff" piled around it. I can't wait to have comfortable desk access again someday.
PODCAST WITH PIXAR’S DEANNA MARSIGLIESE!I recorded the portion of this week’s podcast with Deanna in February 2014 about a week or so before she took off to see the world for a year. Finally I share it online! I didn’t have big plans for the podcast while I was making it but I wanted to grab Deanna for an interview before I wasn’t going to see her for a full year at least. I can’t wait to see all the amazing artwork she’s making on her trip and the photos she’s taking!!! So visit theanimationworkout.com on Wednesday Oct 15 to hear my interview with her!

Here are a couple of drawings that Deanna has done while on her travels:
