Scene Planning

Often times, especially for a technically complicated shot, I start planning a scene like this:

Wow. Go baby naps. I got painting done!

I can hardly believe how quickly I made progress on these backgrounds. The babeh has had a few good naps and I got some work done!

4 backgrounds Left to Paint!

A long time ago I took a break from painting backgrounds since I basically felt like my entire life was painting backgrounds. I've got 4 bgs left to finish up now. I think that using Corel Painter really slowed me down... It's such a laggy program! But I love the brushes and so dealt with the extreme lag. (There are a few awful things about the layers window in Painter as well that make organising files tough.) Here is a screen capture of the 4 leftover bgs in Bridge:

Seeing the 4 of them at once is motivational. I like being able to see the big picture when I can, it helps.

Babette Before and After

Pose tweaking! I love comparing before and after pose tweaks... It really makes the good and the bad obvious. I like to see when I can successfully improve a drawing. It helps to use a software that you layer the images over top of each other and then you can turn on and off the top layer to really see it for what it is.

Slow Progress on Scene 10 While my Baby Sleeps

These days I've been able to nab between 5 minutes and 1.5 hours a day to draw while my baby takes naps! Progress is slow but it's there. I'm just posting this to feel good about making enough progress to make a post about my short since about... September 2013?? Yikes! That's almost a year and 9 months! That's what learning a new toolset and having a kid will do I guess.

Time off

I'm currently taking a break from animation on Pickled to focus on my family. :) We just moved to Vancouver. I'm coming up with new story ideas, I may do some freelance work and I'm practising my French.

Temporary Desk Setup

I'm packing up my apartment for another big move... This time I'm heading to Vancouver, BC! I already disassembled my desk and sold it. So this little record holder is my (very temporary) desk setup!

Absense

Apologies for the long absense from my production blog here! In 2014 I gave birth to my son and he has been my priority through my pregnancy and beyond. It will probably be another 3 or 4 months before I can do another update. Much is changing in my life so it will take some time for me to settle and find some routine. Right now I'm in the middle of packing up my home for a move. I physically can't even get to my desk these days due to all the "stuff" piled around it. I can't wait to have comfortable desk access again someday.
